Amazing story, O Shea does a nice job of mixing mathematical history and ideas to give outsiders a glimpse of what Poincare and Perelman were getting at At times the history details felt too far from the big picture and lazy some big block quotes in the middle of the book , and there are bits of unnecessary editorializing, but overall quite enjoyed it.

This was a fascinating and accessible exploration of topology in general carried by the history of the field.

Writtemn well, with a special effort to introduce rather complicated complicated concepts in a simple, yet not vulgar, way.Some srengthening of philosophical and meta physical aspects could do good to this exposition.Recommended.

I enjoyed this book, in part because I enjoy the history of math, but also because it is on a topic somewhat distant from my formal education which focuses on statistics and probability It helped me remedy several gaps in my preparation.
